Interviews

An interview is a two way process. The purpose of the interview is for the employers to discover your suitability for the position advertised and for you to find out whether the employer and/or job meets up to your expectations.

What you need to prepare

Thorough preparation will help you to feel confident about the interview. Before the interview think about the following points:

The Company

What does the company do? Who are its competitors? What locations does it operate in? Have a look at their website.

Yourself

Strengths, weaknesses, motivation and interests. Your CV and Personal Development Plan will help with this.  Take a copy to the interview.

The Job

What skills, attributes and knowledge are required for the job? What does the job involve? The more you know, the more you can demonstrate that your skills and knowledge meet their requirements.

What questions you might be asked

Interviews are often based on your application or CV and the interviewer is looking for evidence that you match her selection criteria. Have a think about what questions you would ask if you were in their position.

What questions you will ask at the end

This is your opportunity to ask questions about the job or the company that have not been covered in the interview. While some questions will occur to you during the interview it is always good to have a couple prepared ahead of time.
