Awards and Bursaries
Funding your studies and career development can be difficult. While there is not lots of extra money available, there are some awards and bursaries that can help with particular expenses. All funds have conditions attached and it is important that you check that you meet their criteria. Below are links to some organisations offering awards and bursaries which are particularly relevant to women studying in science, engineering, technology and the built environment.
New : 2010 Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship
The Anita Borg Institute in partnership with Google are offering a £7,000 scholarship for women in technology. Applicants must be enrolled at University within Europe, Africa or the Middle East and be studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informactics or a closely related technical field. The deadline for this scholarship is February 1st 2010.
UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering & Technology
The UKRC offer some grants and travel awards to students. They have a very good website page listing sources of funding, some of which are targeted particularly at women.
Doris Gray left a legacy particularly to support women studying engineering in Scotland. The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) administer the Doris Gray Trust, and some other awards. The Doris Gray page on the Women's Engineering Society website
